I just did some of my very best begging so that this cat would not be killed today, even though I know that the chances of getting her out are slim to none. Seems I am not much of a cat networker lately.

Here is the very sad story. She arrived on August 29 pregnant. The next time I saw her, she had teeny tiny babies and seemed as if she did not know what to do with them. She tried to groom them, tried to nurse them but she just didn't know what to do and there was nobody to help her. One by one, the babies died a slow death, sitting next to their mom, growing cold and suffering until they died. I think one or two were fortunate enough to be euthanized but the rest suffered slowly as mom sat there bewildered.

She is a very dear kitty, calm and loving. Cute too. Unfortunately, the shelter is so full of sickness that she is now very sick with URI. The shelter called and rather than treat her and make her well, the new vet wants to euthanize her. He thinks euthanizing all of the sick ones is the way to get the upper respiratory out of the shelter.

As as rescuer who has been in the shelters for 8 years, I can tell you this is NOT the way to do it. I have seen this technique for so many years. Let them sit and get sick in the cat room and then kill them as if that is some way to control the disease. EVERY cat who comes in gets it, they have done nothing to stop the illness by killing rather than treating.

It would make sense to move the cats to isolation at the very first sign of sickness, treat them, and when they become healthy, rotate them back into the cat room where they will be immune to the sickness and stay healthy and adoptable. But instead, they let the cats linger with URI forever in the cat room and then want to kill them. This makes no sense at all. The treated healthy cats could be rotated up and the new cats coming down with URI could be rotated into ISO.

Right now, the cat room is filled with cats who are sick and people are turned off and do not want to adopt. Wouldn't it make sense to treat and then have healthy cats the cat room? Once the cats have had the URI, they stay immune.

But I digress. The whole point of this email was to BEG for somebody to save this poor cat whose live will end tomorrow at 5.

If you would like to foster or adopt, help is available for her medical expenses.

Please email yep6cats@aol.com if you can help. Do not wait, she has no time.
