A forum for our personal animals that have gone to Rainbow Bridge. Our time with them was far too short, and they were very much loved.

Um. well....

I went to check on the dog Candy for someone yesterday. Decided to take a stroll through the cat room. Saw this cat that I actually started to network the day before. Asked to see her, very light ( a little over 5#) and frail. Cat was owner turn-in, owner evidently developed case of allergies. The kind that takes 17 years to develop. After giving it some thought, I decided to take kit and have her spend her last days in a better environment. I was pretty confident that as an owner turn -in she wouldn't have one of those communicable diseases.
Anyway, I took her straight to my vet. The beginnings of renal failure, heart sounded good, I did not opt to have X-rays taken as I would not be doing any heroic measures with her if cancer was present. Teeth are bad and may need a canine pulled.
I think I will keep her name, Snooper. One of my staffies is named Snoopy (I kept his name as an owner turn-in) She is very sweet and affectionate. She has a loud voice and uses it well until I figure out what it is that she wants. She likes to sit on the bed on top of a pillow, so no joint problems here, what with her jumping up and down from the bed. I am keeping her alone in a bedroom and visiting her throughout the day. If she gets stronger and gains weight, I may slowly start introducing her to the others.

Sorry, no pics at this time.

Forgot to mention she had been declawed

She has a loud meow.
Ihave both her and Angie, my senior staffie, in the bedroom with me right now, during lunch break. Angie is totally non-reactive w/cats, so I get to visit both during lunch

Meow continues to be loud and strong. Snooper knows what she wants but I wish I know what she wants. I doubt she is eating enough and that is my main concern at this time. I give her canned only, Pet Promise or Drs. Foster and Smith, different flavors, give her salmon, still not eating enough. I don't know if she doesn't like the food, her teeth hurt, or what. I think she needs to gain some weight before I take her to dentist.
Anyway, I just can't imagine why someone would dump her into shelter. She is the sweetest thing. Oh, almost forgot, she does answer to her name. She would much rather be on someone's lap all day but unfortunately that is not the reality of this situation.

Just Angie, as I know how low-key and non-reactive she is to cats.
Snooper's too fragile now to let my other dogs near her

My lil puddin has dental apt. next week. At least one of my fears didn't materialize, there have been no cat fights bet. the Obnoxious One and my two others. She has already staked out her territory and will give hiss and swipe if my others get too up close and personal. Has habit of howling around 3am, I figure this is either when the pain meds for her mouth wear off or when she is used to eating. My dogs and I have learned to sleep through this. Barely.

All kidding aside, it saddens me that this sweet, affectionate kit was dumped after 17 years into the pound, inches away from being put down. Snooper (I am keeping her name, she answers to it) is people-oriented and loves to be held, I can even drape her over my shoulder. I would love to have a dialog with her prior owner. Or maybe not.
I do know that Snooper has the beginnings of renal failure, and she and I will see it through together.
