ADOPTED-Angie, 10y/o Staffie

A forum for our personal animals that have gone to Rainbow Bridge. Our time with them was far too short, and they were very much loved.

One day we will meet again.

I am moving this for a bit to DOGS AVAILABLE so you can all see the new amazing pictures of Angie. Thanks so much to Mayte and Paula for taking this girl - who really had no chance and making her so happy.

from Jane Garcia" <critters911>:

A former bait dog whose teeth were pulled out, just two weeks ago, she seemed doomed to join the thousands of dogs euthanized in local shelters each year.

But thanx to two wonderful rescuers, she made it out alive and is doing wonderfully at Paula's.

The transformation from her shelter pix to this happy, healthy dog in such a short time is amazing. It is also very poignant to think how few animals like Angie get the chance to make it out of the shelter alive or to homes where people really care.

Sadly, the vast majority of shelter animals come from homes where medical care, good nutrition and TLC are not options.

IF YOU KNOW SOMEONE WHO IS LOOKING FOR A GREAT ONLY DOG, ANGIE COULD BE THE GAL. PLEASE CONTACT PAULA IF YOU CAN HELP:

Angie is looking better every day. The toothless wonder has demolished 2 Kongs and taken a chunk out of an "indestructible" ball. Her hair on the back is starting to grow back and her infected eyes have cleared up.
Angie has an appointment later this month with a board-certified dentist for cleaning, two root canals for her canines, and a few extractions due to cracked teeth. It amazes me how sweet she is despite all the pain and discomfort she must have been in.

from Mayte:

I pulled Angie from SLA shelter on Sunday, October 14th. Angie was to be euthanized because she was emaciated, geriatric and in such bad shape and I just couldn't let that happen to her - she is so sweet! My heart broke when I saw her face filled with dispair at the shelter. She is such a gentle loving girl, I could not let her die in that condition! She was bred and probably used as bait as her front incisors/k9s were filed down and some appear to have been pulled out (see pic).

Personality wise Angie is...loving, calm, loyal, quick to bond, intelligent, trained to sit before eating, getting better on leash, likes to go for walks, good in car, good with cats, but NOT dogs, wants to please, sweet, no human aggression, not destructive in the house.

Despite what this poor girl has endured in life, she has such a sunny disposition - everyone just loves her! Due to her work schedule her current foster mom can not foster past Dec. 3rd! Please help me help her.

With gratitude,

Mayte Delgado & Angie : )

Angie update: I have taken Angie to a board-certified dental vet today for extensive dental work including canine root canal and tooth extractions due to cracked teeth. As Angie has a heart murmur and is a senior at est. 10 years old, a board-certified dental vet in a 24-hour hospital was warranted. She has also had a suspicious skin tag biopsied. I will be taking Angie home tomorrow as vet thinks it best to keep her overnight for observation. As always, Angie remains as sweet as ever.

Angie update

Received from

Angie came through fine on her extensive dental procedure which included surgical extractions and root canal. Her skin biopsy turned up positive for hemangiosarcoma which was excised with clean margins. Kudos to Dr. Anson Tsugawa, VMD, of the California Animal Hospital in W. L. A. for his expertise and very reasonable cost!

Angie is quite the character. As soon as I let her out of the crate she high-tails it straight to my bed. Nothing can deter her from her destination. As can be seen in the accompanying pics, Ange gets along fine with cats.

I am so glad that Angie's life was spared from being PTS at the shelter. All life stages bring their own special enjoyment and seniors are certainly no exceptions

concern for Angie

Postby andrehereboy on Fri Nov 30, 2007 8:21 pm

I am Angie's foster. I have put over $2,000 into her medical and dental care, not to mention supplements, special foods and toys. It pains me very much to see her listed on such sites as Craigslist for a $30 rehoming fee. I have come to totally love this dog and she me, and I would hate to see her fall into the wrong hands. She requires medication for the rest of her life, she has 3/6 heart murmur and is susceptible to skin hemangiosarcoma. I can't imagine anyone paying $30 for the "privilege" of taking on the care of this dog. My point? no point really except concern for the well-being of this wonderful dog. I will pray that she does not fall into undisirable hands.

Okay . . . I'm going to leave the above few posts where they are until I figure out where to put them.

I'm glad I emailed Paula because she doesn't know what is going on! And she's rightfully upset about the direction of this thread (as she should be since she isn't planning on dumping Angie!)

Both Paula and Mayte spent a lot of time and effort on Angie and under NO CIRCUMSTANCES are they sending her back to the shelter. Both were very dedicated and saving her from being killed.

So I am sorry Paula and Mayte for posting the email without getting your confirmation - especially because I know what you went thru for Angie.

And I guess it's a lesson to us all about confirming emails!

That said - Angie still does need a home!

I decided to delete those last few posts. Sorry for the drama!

It just didn't seem fair for me to have those posts up and let people assume things about Mayte and Paula that were not true.

So just to clarify . . . the are NOT going to dump Angie at the pound

We all are pretty passionate about rescuers who do do that, but happily in this case it is not so.

I'm sorry for the inconvenience and any hurt feelings!

O. K., people--time to put an end to the rumor mill. An email went out by a well-intentioned but very misguided person. Unfortunately, the rumor now has a life of its own. All I can say is that there was NEVER any talk or even thought of taking Angie back to the shelter.
Can we all use this as a lesson to take a little time and effort to get the facts right?

This is an email that I received from Robin, explaining why she sent out the email @ Angie. Honestly - I've seen a CL ad about Angie (which I presume is the same one Robin has) and I really have NO idea how she jumped to these conclusions. It's ridiculous. And this has caused an incredible amount of trouble and stress for the two people who saved Angie's life.

from info@smoochapooch.biz :

Hello-

I was simply helping to find Angie a home. The posting that I read, said that the situation was URGENT and DESPERATE and that her foster mom could no longer keep her past Dec 3. I assumed that this meant that Angie would have no place to go and could end up back at the pound. I emailed her story and pictures to friends as an attemept to help Angie. I wanted to specify that she could be euthanized if sent back to the pound so that people would understand the urgency and take action to help her. I had the best intentions and her postings stated that she was in a desperate situation and that her foster mom could NOT keep her after Dec 3rd, so I did the best I could to help.

I have spent many hours doing emails, walking around town posting her craigslist print out etc.. I even offered to pay her adoption fees and transport to her new location. I hope that all of my efforts have helped her in some way and I wish the best for her.. Today her foster mom called me and says that she no longer wants to give her to anyone else and would like to adopt her herself, so this sounds like great news!! It is a terribly sad story and I am glad to see a happy ending... :)

Thank you

Robin

These are my favorite posts!! Pictures of a once homeless, neglected, close to being euthanized dog, who is now obviously much loved (and well fed  )

Thanks Paula!

Angie will be undergoing surgery on 5/22/08 for removal of mammary tumor and at least one mast cell tumor. Please send some healing thoughts her way!

ANGIE UPDATE:

Angie made it through fine from the cancer surgery. She's a tough old bird. Three sites were removed, as well as a nipple due to mammary tumor. She will be fitted for a prosthesis once she heals. One skin sample was sent out for biopsy, will know the results of that next week.
Poor Angie appears to be prone to these various cancers and I have to be ever-vigilant with the body checks.
