Hi Everybody

Earlier this week I was driving around on my lunch break and saw a homeless guy dragging two little dogs around with him in 95 degree heat. The poor dogs looked exhausted and very thirsty. I stopped to offer them some water (which they gulped down in about 3 seconds flat!). The homeless guy said he had found them and couldn't afford to take care of them. He said he wouldn't take them to the pound because he was afraid they'd be killed there, so he said he was going to just let them go on the street when he "found a good spot." Obviously I could not let him do that, so I offered to take them from him. He was very grateful and I gave the poor man $20, which was the only cash I had on me at the time. Both dogs were riddled with fleas and so filthy that they needed immediate baths!

I am currently boarding them at my vets and they will get all their shots and be fixed later this week. I did post Craigslist ads about them, since I don’t know how or when the homeless person got them, but although it seems there are tons of people looking for small brown dogs – these two aren’t them.

I have named them Toffee and Butter.

Toffee (the terrier mix) is about one year old and has the most magnificent eyes. He’s just a baby and loves giving kisses. He's a lively little boy and enjoys chasing a tennis ball (although we're working on having him actually bring it back!)

Butter is a two year old Chihuahua mix who is sooooo calm and serene and an excellent listener. He is a very quiet dog, very obedient, low key and perfectly behaved. He would make a darling companion for anyone. He seems to keep Toffee in line.

They are both SUPER people friendly and they got along well with the other dogs that I introduced them to. They also appear to be cat friendly and have just simply ignored the free roaming cat which lives at my vet's office. They seem quite bonded (Toffee seems to be a little more needy for his pal Butter) and it would be wonderful if they could be adopted together. However, I understand the realities of trying to place two dogs, and as they are both so young, I think they could adapt to being split up if needed.

They can stay at my vet's until they are neutered but I need to find a more permanent solution for them asap. If anyone can foster or if you know anyone who would be interested in adopting these two little charmers, please let me know. Please contact me (Anna) at Ashleyandhobie@yahoo.com

Also any donations (no matter how small!) towards boarding and expenses for Toffee & Butter would be greatly appreciated. I'm already racking up quite a bill at my vet's office! We are now a registered 501c Non Profit so all your donations are tax deductible.

Hi -

Apologies for abusing power and putting this thread as a global message. I really need help with these two dogs. I generally do not do direct rescue because of the expenses and the responsibility, and it's a lot of work . . . I'd rather put that money toward helping another rescue save a dog.

So far, boarding has cost us over $400 - that's money we could have used somewhere else - and it's been less than two weeks.

I am aware of the perils of saving dogs and the huge bills that are left!

These two dogs are HIGHLY adoptable or should be easy to find a home for.

Unfortunately, the email has received very limited networking (I know because we're on everyone's email list!) There have been FOUR people that have directly forwarded this email from our networking lists. Which is odd as generally we receive the same email about a dozen times.

So please, I beg you - utilize whatever means you can to help me network these two dogs. Put it on your FB account, send it to two of your friends and ask them to network.

We have received some generous donations and also I have been contacted by people who have received the email. And I'd like to thank those people so very much!

An application, home check, adoption fee and contract will be required.

An on-line application can be found at:

http://www.pcdogrescue.org/online_application.html

and either Kim or myself can answer questions about them at ashleyandhobie@yahoo.com

Thank you so very much! I appreciate any and all help, advice, etc. you can give me.

Anna:

What is the current status of these two dogs?
Do you want to show them at Animals Rule Placement Foundation?
www.animalsrule.org every Saturday.

The reason I say this because if you bring them there to sit with other volunteers,
you can talk to Stephanie/Founder to see if she can help you out.

It's easy for folks to say NO online, but when you appeal to xyz face to face: the result is much better.

Stephanie is going to a trade show soon (mid August), so this is the week end you need to bring the dogs.

If you decide to bring them, talk to Stephanie first, ok.

So . . . I just wanted to give everyone an update.

Kim and I dropped Butter and Toffee off at their new homes yesterday. I couldn't be more thrilled with their new families.

Butter (renamed Louie) went to a wonderful home with two kids and two large dogs. His new parents work from home and his new two legged siblings just adore him! I received an email from his new family, and he's slowly getting acclimated. He climbs up their stairs, but has to be carried down (like a king!).

email from his new home:

He did well. He seems to be adjusting slowly - he still is tentative but has found himself a cozy spot on the dining room floor - definitely his spot where he can go to get away from it all! He slept in his new bed in our room and woke up around 3:00 and was whimpering a little. I let him out and he came back in and went back into his bed. He loves his walks and just struts along. He just came up our interior stairs which is good - he was nervous yesterday but just came up on his own as I was writing this - still unsure about going down so we carry him.

Toffee (name TBD) had a long day yesterday. He played ball, with a pulley, went on a few walks, met the neighboring WOOFS, and went to a softball game. One would hope that he would be tired out . . . but I'm sure he was still ready to party when he got home! He has a senior sister pug, two two legged siblings, a mom that works from home, and a dad who LOVES dogs!!!

Now . . . the icing on the cake here is that both families are long time, good FRIENDS and neighbors! So Toffee and Louie will have playdates and see eachother a lot :D

from Louie's mom:

Just after I emailed you "Louie" came down the house stairs all by himself - there was much cheering going on here! Also, we moved his bed to his special spot in the dining room and he just crashed out. He looks like a little king in his fluffy bed.

from Toffee's mom:

Toffee enjoyed the sights, sounds and smells of the softball game last night.

We ended up letting him sleep with our son last night, he's a good snuggler. He was crying in his crate and we just felt like why not so everyone could sleep and he seemed to like that. So that's probably where he'll sleep :)

He's so funny, he can be really amped up outside and then he puts the breaks on and is mr. mellow laying on the kitchen floor. So far so good. We have noticed he does growl at men, so we're aware of that when we walk him. He's great with the kids, I think he's really great for our daughter. She's been really hanging with him.

And he ate like a champ tonight. I waited until 7:30pm and he ate 2 bowls.

Well, unfortunately it looks like poor Louie is being returned today. Apparently he's an absolute love bug with the two kids and the wife, but he's constantly barking and growling at the husband . . . :( Will keep you updated.
